There are multiple reasons why people choose to leave their Country of origin. The most common ones are the search for a better paid job or a desire to improve the quality of life. Nonetheless, the so-called economic migrants are by far the largest group. When you arrive to a new Country you have to face multiple challenges such as a different language, culture, customs and general lifestyle. That’s when Facebook can come in handy.
Community Groups
Browsing through the social network, it is possible to find a group created by people coming from the same foreign country. For example, if you move to Southern Spain, you’ll find multiple groups of British expats, as well as migrants from Scandinavia or Holland. A Facebook group can act as a powerful tool to get the answers to important questions such as how to renew a document, housing opportunities, general advice and even the best places to visit or to eat out. The good thing about it, is that you can ask the information in your own language and you will get, in most cases, an almost instant reply. Of course, if you are looking at renewing your passport, you can’t just trust a reply from a Facebook user. Still, these communities are always very supportive and may be of great help in many different situations.
How to Join a Facebook Group
If you find a suitable group, joining is very easy, and it’s actually necessary if you want to interact with the other members. You will have to select “join this group” and then wait for approval from the group administrator. In a few cases, they might also ask you general questions about the reasons why you want to join the group. Once you are accepted, you can start posting on the group’s page. In your first post, it is nice to introduce yourself, so that the other members get to know you as a new addition to the community.
